Start up the Mahjongg program and click on the Play menu and choose Make a Tile set or Return to Tile set Maker. A window will pop up asking you to choose a filename for your tile set. This is actually the name that it will give a *.bmp file that can be used to save your tile set in process. It will default to calling it My New Tileset 1.bmp and putting it in the Tilesets directory under the + Your Tilesets folder. You can change where it puts this file and what it calls it.
After clicking done another window will show up. This one will ask for the tile width and height that you want. Any choice is fine, just pick the one that will suit your options best. If you choose the portrait shaped one, you will have the option of making a 42 tile set.
The sizes listed next to the different set types are the sizes of the individual tiles in pixels. Its a good idea to size the images you want to use before hand to match the pixel size of the tiles you want to use in the set. This is not neccesary however.
After clicking done again you will now be in the tile making program. Images will need to be imported into this program one at a time. Under the Get Tile Image options File will bring up an Open box which will let you find the image file that you want to use by browsing your computers directories. You can also copy an image onto the clipboard and retrieve it by means of the Get tile button under the clipboard section of buttons.
After getting your image it will show up in the Source Window. There is an adjustable rectangle that needs to be resized to the size of the image before hitting the Click to Capture button. To select which tile it will end up as simply click on whatever square you desire on the right.
Tiles will be loaded left to right from the top row of squares then from the next row down etc. when they are used in the game. Some layouts will use less than all 36 images so if you have preferences about which images will show up in a limited layout make those tiles the first ones.
While you are in process or when you are done I suggest clicking the Save Tile set in Progress button under the File Menu options. This will save your tile set as a square shaped *.bmp file that can be reloaded. This is invaluable if you find that one tile has a problem and you need to fix that one tile later on. However this file will be enoromous. 20 to 30 megs in size.
When you are done loading the tile images you need to choose an option for creating sides. If you have allotted space on the bottom and left side for this choose the Wrap to Sides option. A third of the image will be used for sides if this is the case. When you select a tile, guidelines will show up to show you exactly how much that is. If you have no bottom or side space, Reflect Top on Sides can sometimes look okay. This takes a specified amount of pixels from the edge right next to the side in question and stretches them on the side of the tile image.
When done with side selection click the Save as Real Tile set and Try it in the Game button. This will first ask you where you want to save your tile set and what you want to call it. This is for the actual tile set files not the *.bmp image.
After that it will have a variety of options of things you may choose to do to your tile set. I suggest Tile Sides Darkening of negative 30 and Tile Bottoms Darkening of negative 50. However if you find that these are not to your liking feel free to experiment. After that click Done, Use this Tile set and it will display in the game, and you are done.
